The Nympho

In the short story, "Motherfucker", the guy is like addicted to sex. I really do know why Bender used this story. I think he had sex with all these women to fill something he was missing. He went from women to women. It did not matter what the profession was.
I do not see why Bender would write a story about this. I honestly find it really disgusting. I feel as if he is using woman, just for the sex. In today's society you see it a lot. They call it being a PIMP, or a man whore. I really wonder why Bender put this story in with the rest of the stories. But it was an interesting story. (Nicole Butzke, Post 15).

  1. Bender said in an interview that she wrote this story because she was fascinated with the possible meanings of the word "motherfucker."

Aside from your very strong reaction to the story, let's look at it a bit deeper:

Is the main character addicted to sex because he dates various mothers?

You mention that he wanted to have sex with mothers to fill something that was missing within himself. In your opinion, what could it be that the motherfucker is missing?

Is his relationship with the starlet "disgusting," as you say, or is it beautiful in some way? Does he only use the starlet for sex, or is there something deeper and more complex going on? How does he help the starlet or what does he give her?

Lastly, you question why Bender chose to include this particular story in Willful Creatures. What connections can we draw between "Motherfucker" and other stories that we read? Does this story involve similar issues of loneliness and outcasthood?
